Swimming is "moving one's body through water, a moderately viscous fluid." (Woodford) Swimmers have to inevitably face the drag of moving through water as our legs, arms, head and body move back and forth between the interface of air and water, which either slows and speeds us up as we move from the different elements. Moving from air and water is quite inefficient, but is obviously necessary as we need to breathe for air. (Woodford)
